Reserved seats: The seats will go to other parties if the Sunni alliance's request is not decided by next week, sources

ISLAMABAD: Sources have said that after joining PTI-backed members, if the Sunni alliance's request for specific seats is not decided by next week, the seats will be distributed among other parties.

After the PTI members joined the Sunni Ittehad Council for the reserved seats, the swearing-in process in all the five assemblies has started from Friday.

National Assembly: 10 reserved seats for PP and 4 reserved seats for MQM from Sindh, notification issued

A spokesperson of the Election Commission told The News that the commission has requested the legal wing of the SIC to start the process, for which the commission is yet to decide whether it will issue specific seats in the assemblies. Whether to give Assembly seats to Sunni Unity Council or not.

Assuming the commission accepts the request, it will increase the numerical strength of the Sunni Ittehad Council in all the five assemblies, but its minority status in the National Assembly and three other provincial assemblies will not change.

Another important development has been that an important meeting has been called in the Election Commission on February 26 in which matters will be decided in the light of the findings of the legal wing.
